Agassi's Electric Car Grid

Chris Anderson interviews $200M seed entrepreneur, Shai Agassi about the prospects for his battery recharge start up, Better Place.
The video production team should learn how to properly capture close mic audio because the room reverb is extremely annoying, but the interview is timely and interesting.

This Guy Predicted The Financial Crisis And Was Derided For It (VIDEO)

When you are advancing a politcal agenda in lieu of sound financial analysis, you deserve to eat crow. Kudos for Peter Schiff for being alone in the wilderness.

Vic’s Picks for California initiatives

Cramming for Election Day in the great State of California? Check out the helpful recommendations from Victoria Rome, Deputy Director, California Advocacy for the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Prop 1A – High Speed Rail YES

We need it. Good use of bond funding. Will create jobs, help the environment and allow for a 2 ½ hour trip from SF to LA on a sweet train.

Prop 2 – Treatment of Farm Animals YES

Not sure why this couldn’t be worked out through the regular legislative process but those chickens are in really small cages. Also, this wouldn’t take effect until 2015 which seems to be adequate time to re-tool the farms so the animals can be happier.

Prop 3 – Bonds for Children’s Hospitals YES

How can I vote against children’s hospitals? I hear the one in Oakland is great. I don’t think this is a great use of bond funding but our out of whack state budget process gives these causes very little choice but to go to the ballot. And it’s a small bond issue really, only $980 million!

Prop 4 – Parental Notification for Abortion NO

I don’t believe in legislating a young woman’s relationship with her parents. My friend Virginia wrote a brief on why this is a bad idea.

Prop 5 – Rehabilitation of Nonviolent Criminals YES

Our prison system is a mess and costing us billions. We are close to being taken over by the feds because of overcrowding. This could help avoid building new prisons and save about $2.5 billion.

Prop 6 – Public Safety and Criminal Penalties NO

This one would require us to build more prisons and lock in a level of state spending through initiative. I don’t like that.

Prop 7 – Renewable Energy NO

Would put small renewable energy providers out of business and actually make it harder to increase supplies of renewable energy. This was put on the ballot by people who don’t know much about clean energy.

Prop 8 – Ban on Gay Marriage NO

I visited San Francisco City Hall the Valentine’s Day weekend after Newsom first declared gay marriage legal. What an air of excitement and pure joy! We need more love in the world.

Prop 9 – Victim’s Rights NO

More prison spending.

Prop 10 – Bonds for Alternative Energy NO

Vote NO on this bond so you can feel better about approving the other bonds on the ballot. This is really about promoting natural gas vehicles and while that may have some global warming benefit, natural gas vehicles are not as efficient as some of the other options (like plug-in hybrids). A greater demand for natural gas would lead to more pressure to drill… baby drill.

Prop 11 – Redistricting YES (I guess)

We need structural reforms like this to make Sacramento work better. Redistricting should encourage compromise and more bipartisanship because legislators wouldn’t have such “safe” districts. I’m not sure this is the answer to Sacto’s problems and I may still change my mind but right now I feel like it’s worth a shot.

Prop 12 – Bonds for Veterans’ Home Loans YES
Helps veterans buy a home.

Joe the Plumber Revealed

Many of my @tweeps were looking for more of the lowdown on Joe the Plumber. Here's KO's fine summation....

I predict Joe will be involved with the fine folks at WWE some time soon. He'll bulk up, naturally I assume, and become the $250k hero.

This is too much fun. My wife thinks he looks like Michael Chiklis from "The Shield," but I see more of a Robert Patrick from "Terminator 2" fame.

Its not a big deal his name is Sam. Its still okay by me if you want to go by your middle name.

Look, he is a private citizen and if he chooses to not capitalize on the fame, then, I apologize to hype the story needlessly.

But, the New American Dream is to cause attention to yourself and stay interesting. When that dries up, you go on Wrestlemania or "The View."
